Improving Gas Mileage
Improving gas mileage, especially with the price of gas being so high, is something that
everybody is aiming for. Here are a few hints and tricks to help you get the most out of your gas tank.
Make sure your tires are inflated properly. Keeping your tires inflated properly means improving gas mileage by
more than three percent. Conversely, under inflated tires do a great deal to lower your gas mileage. Another bonus
to making sure that your tires are properly inflated is knowing that you will be making sure that your tires are
safe and that they last as long as possible.
Always use the grade of motor oil that is recommended for your car. Cars are very picky about the oil that is
put into them. If you use the same grade of motor oil that the manufacturer uses improving gas mileage is possible
by between one and two percent. You should also keep an eye out for the "Energy Conserving" label on the API
performance symbol. Energy conserving motor oil contains some additives that help reduce friction.
Plan your commute. If you can plan your working hours to help you avoid rush hour traffic, do so. Less time
sitting in traffic means that less gas is being eaten by your car and that means improving gas mileage!
If you own more than one car, make sure to drive the car that gets the best gas mileage whenever you can.
Ask if you can telecommute to your job, even part time. Working from home not only does wonders for improving
gas mileage, but it reduces the amount of money you will spend filling up your tank!
Carpooling is always a good idea. It is better for the environment and means that your car will be driven less
often. You might also want to think about using public transportation and only using your car on the days you are
late or when you want to take a trip.
When going on a trip make sure to pack the car appropriately. A roof rack that is loaded down with extra stuff
can lower your gas mileage by five percent. Make sure you are not overweighing your car. Also, using the luggage
rack can slow down your car because it creates aerodynamic problems.
When driving make sure to follow the speed limit and to drive calmly and sensibly. Stopping and starting
abruptly, speeding and then slowing down a lot-all of these are things that can decrease your gas mileage. Do your
best to drive at a constant speed. By using cruise control you are greatly improving gas mileage on your car.
There are plenty of ways to go about improving gas mileage but you would be surprised at how much gas you will
save simply by driving safely and making sure that you keep your car maintained. Keeping up on your car's
maintenance and observing the speed limit might feel boring, but it will do wonders for both improving gas mileage
and extending the life of your car.
Cars That Run on Water Tip #1
No matter what anybody tells you, there is not yet a water powered car in production. That is an urban myth that
reached its peak with Stanley Meyer who claimed that he drove one hundred miles using only four ounces of water (he
was later convicted of fraud). The water powered engine hasn't even been invented yet. Scientists are still trying
to figure out if it is even possible.
Cars That Run on Water Tip #2
Many major car manufacturers are embracing the idea of the hydrogen car. BMW hopes to release a hydrogen car to
the public by 2008 (or 2010 at the latest) and other manufacturers like Toyota are also making plans to release
hydrogen car lines. Of course the debate over using hydrogen in cars is still raging and nothing has been settled
yet.
Cars That Run on Water Tip #3
While both a water based engine and a hydrogen engine will do wonders for fuel emissions and the environment,
one of the major reasons people want them is to improve their fuel mileage. Of course, gas mileage can be improved
right now. You can improve your gas mileage drastically just by driving sensibly and making sure your car is
maintained properly.
